Cheesy Garlic Bread Crescent Rolls

Your whole family will go crazy for these super-easy, Cheesy Garlic Bread Rolls to go with all of their favorite soups and pastas!

I have serious love for garlic bread. Plain bread is great on it’s own, but when you add a whole lot of garlic-flavored butter and make it all brown and crunchy, there’s just nothing better than that. I will plan whole meals around creating a justification for garlic bread. Lasagna, tortellini soup, pasta bolognese, all great. Just pass me the garlic bread and I’ll be happy. Since this is not the first garlic bread item I’ve posted on here this year (see Cheesy Garlic Bread Dippers), you can tell I’m a huge fan.

These rolls, though. They are a level up in the garlic bread department. They are filled with melty, stretchy, gooey cheese! Cheese, as we know, makes everything delicious. Cheese is the whole secret to delicious.

And these are so incredibly easy to make. They only require a few ingredients, take less than ten minutes to put together, and the process is so simple you can even talk your kids into doing it for you! Crescent rolls, string cheese, butter and garlic are the must-haves for these cheesy garlic bread rolls. Some Italian seasoning and parmesan cheese are great too, but the first four are the only real essentials. These rolls will be your weeknight go-to for warm bread with dinner, because you can assemble in less time than it takes your pasta water to boil, and they’ll be baked up all perfect by the time you strain that spaghetti!

Ingredient Notes

  • Crescent rolls – We all know and love refrigerated crescent roll dough. The regular tube is perfect and will make 8 rolls.
  • String cheese – Again, plain old mozzarella string cheese. Since we’re going to cut them in half in order to get them to fit inside the crescent roll dough, you only need 4.
  • Butter – Yup. Butter. No, I don’t know if you can use margarine, vegan spread, plant-based whatever. Don’t touch ’em, never tried it.
  • Garlic powder – Use the dried powder. Why? Because fresh garlic burns really easily and tastes really nasty when that happens. Don’t be difficult. We’re working with string cheese and crescent roll dough here. It’s a little late to be a snob about the whole thing.
  • Italian seasoning – This is optional. I like it, but you don’t need to add it if you don’t like it, or if you have kids who get icked about green flecks of anything on their food.
  • Grated parm cheese – Again, optional. I like cheese it nearly all of its forms, so I sprinkle some grated parm on the rolls before they go in the oven. Again, not the recipe for going out and buying a block of the imported real deal if it’s not what you have in the house. If you have domestic parmesan or pre-grated, use that. If you don’t like parm, skip it.

How to Make Cheesy Garlic Bread Rolls

  • Preheat oven – 375F.
  • Set up the crescent roll dough – Smack the tube on the counter, peel and unroll. Separate the triangles into 8 pieces and lay them out flat.
  • String Cheese – Peel the wrappers off of 4 pieces of string cheese and cut them in half. Place one half at the top of each piece of dough, parallel to the top of the dough triangle.

  • Roll and pinch – Starting at the top, roll the dough up as you would for normal crescent rolls, closing up the dough around the string cheese. Pinch the ends closed on each side so that the cheese doesn’t leak out while baking. Place the rolls on an ungreased baking sheet.
